CDC Launches i know Campaign
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released the latest phase of the Act
Against AIDS campaign, i know. Last year, CDC along with the White House and the Department of
Health and Human Services, launched Act Against AIDS, the government′s first national HIV campaign
in nearly 20 years, to address the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the U.S. African Americans make up 12
percent of the U.S. population, but account for nearly half of all new HIV infections and AIDS deaths.
Although African American youth are becoming infected faster than any other segment of the Black
community, research indicates declining concern about HIV among young African Americans.
The i know campaign is designed to increase the number of young African American men and women
aged 18-24 who are aware, and who will talk about HIV/AIDS and myths and misperceptions with their
peers, partners, and families.

Catholic Charities Awarded SAMHSA Grant to Treat More HIV/AIDS Clients
Catholic Charities - Behavioral Health Services at St. Luke′s Center is pleased to announce that we have recently been awarded a 5-year SAMHSA grant that will help us to treat more individuals diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. St. Luke′s is a 30-90 day residential substance abuse/dual diagnosis treatment program providing treatment to adults suffering with alcohol/drug/mental health problems.
These SAMHSA grant funds allow St. Luke′s to treat approximately 63 clients a year, with a rotation of 9 new clients every 45 days. We will begin receiving admissions in March 2010.
This grant will act as an enhancement to our agreement with Mercy Hospital and is in addition to the bed space we currently have reserved for HIV/AIDS individuals. The procedure to access treatment remains the same as we will continue to coordinate service availability and treatment through Mercy Hospital.
St. Luke′s thanks Mercy Hospital for their continued support in assisting individuals diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. Through this unique grant opportunity, we look forward to working with everyone in the treatment community to assist many more HIV/AIDS clients on their road to recovery.

5th International Conference on HIV Treatment Adherence
June 12, 2010
Conference Goal: Adherence to medical treatment for HIV/AIDS is an essential determinant of treatment success or failure. Yet, we still have much to learn about measurement, determinants, and interventions for HIV treatment adherence - these are complex challenges that require multidisciplinary cooperation among providers, researchers, government agencies, and patients. The goal of this conference is to provide an international forum for the presentation and discussion of state-of-the-science HIV treatment adherence research, as well as current behavioral and clinical perspectives in practicum. Our ultimate hope is that this dialogue translates in to evidence-based implementation of approaches for real world clinical and community settings.

Funding to Support Rapid HIV Testing at Your Event
Proposal Deadlines Vary - Click the link above for details.
Global Evaluation & Applied Research Solutions (GEARS), Inc. is pleased to invite institutions, organizations, state health departments, HIV testing processing laboratories and other relevant companies throughout the United States to submit proposals to support planned activities or implement new activities to increase the number of rapid HIV tests conducted among African Americans adults, men having sex with men, youth and other persons at risk. These services will be provided in support of the CDC initiative Behavioral Assessment and Rapid Testing (BART), also known as the Being About Rapid HIV Testing Project. BART is an initiative to address the HIV/AIDS crisis among African Americans and other persons at Risk. Although African Americans constitute 12 percent of the U.S. population, they represent about half (46 percent) of those living with HIV. African American women and African American gay and bisexual men are most affected. This is largely due to a lack of awareness in terms of HIV status and psychosocial barriers that prevent HIV testing in the African American community. Posted

HIV/AIDS & Older Latinos - FIU Study for Social Workers and Caseworkers
At the same time the incidence of HIV/AIDS is decreasing for most adult populations, it is increasing dramatically among older people – especially older minorities. MSM and Heterosexual contact are the leading transmission routes. Despite these facts, little is known about how to communicate about sexual risk and prevention.
This study explores the language, techniques and approaches that social workers and caseworkers employ to discuss the sex, sexuality and the risk of HIV infection with their Latino patients and clients. The study will explore cultural considerations and culturally sensitive approaches that social workers and case workers have developed to engage their clients in such discussions.
Interviewing: Social workers and/or Counselors who have
caseloads with at least 5 HIV+ Latinos over 50 years old; communicate with
these clients in Spanish and are able to do the interview with us in Spanish;
and have completed an MSW or equivalent masters degree. AND interviewing Caseworkers who
have caseloads with at least 5 HIV+ Latinos over 50 years old; communicate
with these clients in Spanish and are able to do the interview with us in Spanish;
and have completed an BSSW or equivalent bachelors degree.
Interviews take approximately 1 hour.
We are happy to come to you to do the interview!
Interviewees are compensated $50 for their participation.

Gather.Go.Get.
The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles launched last week Gather. Go. Get. an educational campaign designed to assist Floridians with new driver license and identification card requirements. Beginning Jan. 1, 2010, Floridians renewing or obtaining a new license or ID will be required to show proof of: 1) identification, 2) Social Security number and 3) residential address (two items).
The campaign is anchored by a new website designed to help residents understand the new requirements. DHSMV is encouraging Floridians to visit GatherGoGet.com to find out how and when to gather your documents, go to a driver license office and get your new card.
— Determine when they will need to visit a driver license or tax collector office.
— Create a personalized checklist detailing documents they will need.
— Obtain contact information showing where to get required documents.
— Browse a list of driver license offices in their local area.
Residents are encouraged to use GatherGoGet.com not only to identify the documents they need, but also to find out when they will need to visit an office. As the changes may require some preparation, the Department encourages residents to visit the Web site to speed through the process in order to keep from having to make a second trip:
